2017/18 Home School Science Labs: NATURE STUDIES, LIFE SCIENCE, BIOLOGY!

 

*** REGISTRATION FOR 2017/18 WILL OPEN JUNE 1, 2017.***

Fall home school labs will begin Tuesday, September 5, 2017, and will continue each Tuesday through December 5 (no lab on November 21 due to Thanksgiving holiday).

Spring home school labs will begin again on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, and will continue each Tuesday through May 1 (no lab on March 13 due to UNT spring break).

Lab hours are from 2:00 until 4:00 PM each Tuesday.

Registrations will be taken on a first come, first served basis. To confirm your spot in the labs, payment arrangements should be made no later than Monday, August 28.

Home School HS (high school level) & MS (middle school level) Labs

The home school HS/MS Labs are a series of lab and field sessions for students ages 12 to 18 desiring secondary level lab-based experiences. (HS ages 15-18, MS ages 12-15). The labs are considered the practical application of the basic concepts of high school or middle school study of science.

HS Lab will concentrate in topics in Biology that would include cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, microorganisms, fungi, plants, invertebrates, vertebrates, and physiology.

MS Lab will concentrate in topics in Life Science that would include cell biology, genetics, evolution, prokaryotes, protists, fungi, plants, the animal kingdom, the human body, and ecology.

There will be required weekly prelab reading and activities sent via email that will prepare and enhance understanding of the lab material and activities. It will be understood when a student arrives at lab that these will have been completed by the student and that they will be ready for discussion and lab activities.

Maximum number of students is 20.

Fee for HS/MS Lab is $120 per student per semester, or $200 per student for both semesters if purchased together.

 

Home School Jr. Naturalists (elementary school level)

Home School Junior Naturalist (JN) Lab is a series of lab and field sessions for students ages 8 to 12 desiring nature-based science experiences. The labs are considered the practical application of the basic concepts of an upper-elementary or lower-middle school study of science.

JN lab will concentrate on topics in nature studies to include basic needs/resources; biomes; life cycles; classification; food webs; senses; body organs; cells; and health and nutrition.

There will be short prelab readings and activities sent via email that will prepare and enhance lab experiences. Parents are welcome to participate with their students.

Maximum number of students is 20.

Fee for Junior Naturalist Lab is $100 per student per semester, or $180 per student for both semesters if purchased together.
